Don't you get annoyed when influential leaders are telling you to do something and aren't doing that same thing? I think I get the most annoyed when influencers/politicians/humanitarians/etc. claim to be doing so much for the planet and their community and then get in their private jet and eat all imported animal products while wearing petroleum based ensembles.... and maybe that's because we firmly believe in practicing what we preach and doing our best to be good examples. We know no one is perfect, and we certainly don't claim to be, but making continuous effort to do your best goes a long way.
Here are a few things we make an effort to do on a daily basis to "practice what we preach."
Bring a reusable bottle of water full of filtered water with you and refill when needed⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Make your own coffee or tea rather than going out (unless your spot is “for here” and serves in a reusable cup), but you will save a lot of money if you make it at home!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Buy and bring your own service ware and straw (this one is more of a pain because you’ll have to clean and remember to pack up again but try anyway!)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Buy as many locally produced/grown foods as you can (cuts down on impact of shipping and supports local businesses)
Word of mouth is powerful, tell your friends and post on your social media if you purchase something local and eco friendly so others can follow your lead
If you go out to eat, support a locally owned business that serves local, organic, plant based, or some combo!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Buy used when you can (eBay, Craigslist, Facebook market place, Plato’s closet, thrift stores). It’s not just to save money, it also decreases waste and eliminates the impact of new production
If you can plan it out, walk/bike/take public transport to as many places as you can⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
BUY LESS + DRIVE LESS + FLY LESS
It's easy to feel hungry and just grab something conveninent and yummy. It's easy to need something for your home and buy it new from the cheapest supplier on Amazon Prime.
