Infusing Environmental Marketing & Rebranding

Environmental marketing is a newer concept; however, it is becoming increasingly popular if you have yet to notice. It is not uncommon to see hotels, travel companies, and online stores allow customers to either opt-in, opt-out or have no choice but to contribute to a social or environmental cause. While some states and countries have mandated such strict environmental practices that industries have been forced to change, this has, in turn, provided a platform for these businesses to educate the average consumer about environmental impact- thus, environmental marketing.

How PlanIt Utilizes Environmental Marketing

Environmental marketing and impact are at the forefront of our minds when we create client proposals, marketing and outreach suggestions, and messaging strategies. Sustainability and community impact are so ingrained in everything we do that we don't offer eco-friendly marketing as a separate service.

PlanIt Loves Working with Brands Pursuing an Eco-Friendly Path

When we work with clients who understand eco-friendly business behavior, there is no education hurdle. However, many of these businesses tend to be smaller in scale, and therefore, the hurdle transitions to money, time management, distribution, outreach, and awareness. We often pursue these brands with a "refresh" attitude and present sequential plans to take these businesses to the next level. Some of the ways we naturally integrate sustainability include:

  1. If you hire us to design your brand guide and aid in your package selection, we provide many eco-friendly options for bags, boxes, jars, stickers, business cards, merch, and more!

  2. When you hire us to plan an event, we strive for zero waste, primarily plant-based and, at the very least, plastic-free. We borrow, thrift, reuse, and upcycle all that we can!

  3. When we propose ways for your brand to increase outreach and community impact, we align your brand with local nonprofits and small businesses and strive to integrate acts of service or eco-friendly living education wherever possible.

  4. We always schedule meetings via video chat, but we often skateboard or bike if it's in person!

  5. When creating content creation schedules, we plan far ahead and map things out by location rather than time of use to decrease our overall carbon footprint.

  6. Wherever possible, we strive to make our brands more eco-friendly in their practices and community efforts. We focus on community building and collaboration, and love our clients!

PlanIt Works With Businesses Needing Sustainability Guidance

The biggest misconception of PlanIt Branding is that we will only work with you if you are eco-friendly. Let me start by saying we are not that snobby. Second- these are our favorite clients because by working with them and their typically sizeable following, we have a much more significant impact on society. If you decide to hire us and want to change the direction of your business and brand identity in general, we will go for a rebrand!

There is No Wrong Time to Rebrand a Business

Customers have significantly altered their consumption patterns and style since COVID-19- opting for online investigation and shopping for items well beyond the scope of clothing. The positive part about online shopping is that customers can become educated, compare options, read reviews, and check prices. The downside is that as a business, you must understand that your customers expect you to provide them with all the answers to every question they might have. Your customers expect your business to have primarily positive reviews and for you to be responding to your reviews. Your potential customers expect your prices to be competitive, and they will undoubtedly be comparing you to your competition.

As a business, competition feels endless in a fully digital world. Still, you can outshine the others through high-quality design, branding, content, complete brand transparency, a relatable messaging strategy, and an easy-to-love brand identity. By understanding that your customer expects these things, you can be prepared and provide them with all they need and more to become a one-time and ideally a loyal repeat customer.

In addition to customer expectations and shopping patterns, there is an overarching trend of customers seeking out businesses doing good for the planet and its people. They feel better about spending their money, simply put. As a business, it's easier to market and sell something if you are also selling the benefits of the item well beyond its use.

For example, "This purchase plants ten trees in Ecuador," or "This purchase provides clean drinking water to one child for one year in Kenya."

As customers, we think, "If I buy from this brand, I'm doing so much more than participating in a transaction; my money is also doing something good!"

When is it Time for a Business to Rebrand?

If you are a business that has restructured or had an "aha moment" and realized, "perhaps I need to change where I source my materials and what I use for packaging, " or "I need to alter how and where I make my items and focus on helping the community around where my factories are" - a rebrand of mission and brand identity might be the right choice for you! This type of business is typically larger in scale, and a rebrand will often require an internal restructuring. Many of these brands might be changing because the law requires them to, and if they neglect the rebrand, they are doing themselves a major disservice.

Small businesses often need rebrands, but for entirely different reasons. For example, perhaps as a business owner, you had a great idea and ran with it, focusing only on building a business, not building a brand. You've put something together that would do the trick, technically having everything, but your branding lacks the sophistication needed to scale your business. Maybe you run a business that is already doing incredible things for the community, using eco-friendly packaging and sustainable materials, and going above and beyond in product quality control. Still, if your social media output, brand identity, website, and messaging strategy are downgrading or inaccurately portraying your business, then a rebrand is the solution for you!
